Finding the positive realities in
your life can be a challenge for any one battling a stroke/chronic
illness/ pain .The many positive aspects are not as obvious when you
first begin to look for them among all the negative realities of
having a stroke or any illness for that matter.
Negative- I have had a stroke and have
to face the symptoms, the left side of my body has limitations.
Positive- I am alive so that makes me a
survivor.
Negative-The left side of my face has
been numb since the stroke , it often feels like it is chapped and
painful.
Positive- I started using a natural
cream lotion on my face, and know I have less lines and softer skin.
Negative- My left are and hand are numb
and often painful to use.
Positive- But at least I still have an
arm.
Negative- Doing the dishes has been a
very painful reality.
Positive- waring rubber gloves allows
me to do the dishes with out pain.
Negative- There is little doctors can
do to help me with the numbness and pain. In fact, I have a lot of
questions that have gone unanswered since my stroke. On the other
hand , I have battled other chronic illness/pain in my life with the
same results.
Positive- I have found it with in
myself to find the best path to walk in order to help myself feel
better.
Negative- Although, most doctors would
say that being socially connected with other stroke survivors is
vital for recovery. Social interconnection with other stoke
survivors ( and I have joined both online and locally) has been a
real challenge for me. The reality of my questions or statements
being ignored, has been a very painful slap in the face.
Positive- At least I am not being
ignored by my family. Or my close friends.
Negative- there are times that I have
to hold my arm close to me, in order to help me deal with the pain
and coldness that it feels. It can be very depressing.
Positive- But at least I have my faith
to lean on, and hope for a full recover to give me strength to face
each moment of the day.
I have found the positives in the
middle of all the negatives that are apart of battling a
stroke/chronic illness and pain. Have you?
